Wilderness Retreat, Fiordland National Park
“Just over the Mountains from Milford Sound”

There are a variety of access and departure options.
Helicopter… The most reliable form of access, a very scenic and exhilarating 15-minute flight from Milford Sound over some of the most mountainous parts of Fiordland's Southern Alps. Landing virtually at Charlie’s doorstep. Approximately $575.00. (Charge per load / 4 person capacity)

Fixed Wing Plane… From the majestic Milford Sound it is a very spectacular 20-minute flight to a bush airstrip at Martin’s Bay. Then a gentle 2-hour walk along the Hollyford Track through ancient Podocarp rainforest and along the shores of Lake McKerrow to “Charlies Place” (Flying subject to prevailing weather conditions).

Walk in and Jetboat… A jetboat service operates from Pyke/Hollyford Confluence (approximately 5 hours walk from the end of the Hollyford Road). This service operates every second day (November – April) @ $50.00 per head to Jamestown Bay (Charlies). A spectacular trip through some very scenic country. (Prior jetboat bookings essential).
Walk In… 3 days walk down the Hollyford Track. One hour past Hokuri Hut heading towards Martins Bay or if you are walking the opposite way, 3 hours walk from the Martins Bay Hut (Long Reef) to Charlies. (Experience and good fitness necessary). Contact D.O.C (Department of Conservation) for track details.Canoe or Raft... a wonderful experience down through a very scenic Fiordland waterway (aprox. 2 days). Experience essential.
