“Recreation”
Wilderness Retreat, Fiordland National Park

Wilderness Waterways . . .  The pristine and very scenic wilderness country accessible by Jetboat from this property gives great options for Hunting/Fishing/Treking/Climbing/Kayaking etc. From this beautiful little bay in the rainforest one can access 3 wilderness lakes (McKerrow, Alabastra & Wilmot), 2 wilderness river systems (Hollyford & Pyke) and the open sea (Tasman). This is real and unspoilt New Zealand wilderness which makes this property very unique and extremely special.

Note: Jetboating, Rafting, Kayaking etc. are subject to weather and river conditions and experience.

Hunting . . .  Red deer are an introduced species to the New Zealand environment and they are seen as a pest. Their destruction is an activity encouraged by the conservation authority (D.O.C.) who administer the National Park that surrounds this property. The hunting season is all year round. Hunting in the Fiordland podocarp rainforest is challenging but once you become used to the hunting conditions the results can be very rewarding. Oppossums are another introduced pest and can be trapped for either environmental conservation purposes or for their fur, which has a commercial value.

Fishing . . . The sea fishing is very good. The coastline is seldom visited because of it's remoteness and as a result the fishery resource is very healthy and rewarding. From this property (Jamestown Bay) on the shores of Lake McKerrow it takes aprox. 15 - 20 minutes by boat down the lake & Lower Hollyford to the open sea (dependant on the crossing of the Hollyford Bar).

The freshwater fishery (mainly trout and sometimes salmon) can be varied in results. Lake McKerrow for example is one of the few lakes in the world that is regularly visited by marine mammals such as dolphins & seals. These beautiful creatures can play havoc on the lakes population of trout; but such visits can offer some unique and interesting eco-tourism potential/experiences/.

Kayaking/Rafting/Climbing . . .  These are other options available from this wonderfully positioned property. It is aprox. a 2 hour sea kayak trip to the estuaries and white herrons of the Lower Hollyford and the untouched sandhills of Martin's Bay, with the potential of running into and playing with a pod of dolphins visiting the lake - which is a great experience.

Or . . .  This very special property inside New Zealand's largest and most scenic National Park could be just used for a special hideaway for outdoor romantics.
